Sean Seah is an Investor and the author of 3 Best Selling (Kinokuniya and Armour Publishing Best Seller) Personal Finance Books, “Gone Fishing with Buffett”, “Winning the Money Game” and “Financial Joy”.

He is a highly sought-after speaker and is the 1st Singaporean to have a foreword written by Mary Buffett, an internationally renowned investment expert.

He is also the youngest speaker at National Achiever Congress 2013 and 2014 which stages speakers like Robert Kiyosaki, Richard Branson, Donald Trump, Tony Blair, and Antony Robbins.

He speaks at several other conferences and is a frequent Securities Investor Association Singapore (SIAS) speaker.

Tell us your name and a little about yourself

I am Sean Seah (pronounced as “c-ah”) and I became exposed to the idea of creating income other than salary when my ex-boss passed me a book entitled, “Creating Wealth” by Robert G Allen. From then on, I fervently researched on ways to create wealth and income other than my job.

I was the first Asian to fly to USA to seek mentorship under Mary Buffett, who was from the Buffett family. I later made my millions in stock investing and multi millions in starting side businesses.

Please tell us about your wonderful book “Financial Joy 2.0”

This is a book written for families who want to create additional streams of income.

Why do you write? Do you have a theme, message, or goal for your books?

In fact, I wrote the bulk of it in the hospital when my child was fighting cancer. It was through that experienced, I know of many families who couldn’t afford to fall ill. And even if they could afford, they didn’t have time to spend with their families.I wanted to share more strategies on how we can create income streams.

How long have you been writing?

My first book is in 2010 titled “Winning the Money Game”. My 2nd was in 2012, “Gone Fishing with Buffett”. I have sinced wrote 8 books.

And how long did it take you to get your first major book contract? Or are you published non-traditionally? How did that come about?

My first book is in 2010 took 2 years. I started by writing blogs and a published author read my blog and told me I should become a published author.

He then introduced me to his publisher and then I started to write my first book, “Winning the Money Game”

How long does it take you to write a book?

It used to take me a year. But nowadays, I probably need less than 3 months. The process becomes faster as I become more organized and efficient.

The hardest part is mental block which I now have simple strategies to overcome, which is to just take a break, watch a movie and inspiration will flow again.

How many times in your career have you experienced rejection? How did they shape you?

I eat rejection for breakfast… My first completed book was never published so I had to rewrite again. My first 2 businesses were failures too, so in some sense I got rejected by the market. The good thing is we can learn each time and grow. Quoting Bill gates, “Success is a lousy teacher.”

If you could change 1 thing you did in the beginning of your career what would it be?

Find more great mentors. My greatest mentor is probably Mary Buffett. Because she helped me open up many doors! If I have 10 mentors of her calibre, I will be 100 times further than where I am today

How do you maintain a work-life balance?

Time discipline. Each week, I plan out my time and I place the most important things like family time into my calendar first. If it is not schedule, chances are it will not happen.

What is one piece of advice that you have never forgotten?

Successful People all Think Ultra Long Term

What does success look like for you?

To be a great dad to my kids, a great husband to my wife and a great servant to God.
